Introducing the Web APM blog

Web applications are everywhere and managing their performance is a major IT challenge.  Not only are these applications customer-facing, more and more enterprise applications are being web-enabled.  With all the moving parts involved in delivering Web performance—including networks and third party providers who are outside of IT’s direct control—it is not the kind of headache that can be easily ignored or wished away by rebooting servers.

Hi, my name is Hon Wong, and I am a founder of a number of successful system management companies including EcoSystems, NetIQ (NASDAQ: NTIQ), and Symphoniq.  These companies pioneered the management of distributed databases in the early 90s, large-scale Wintel server deployments in the mid-90s, and now, Web applications performance.  This blog chronicles one man’s lessons learned, generalizations, observations, surprises and disappointments, and views and prejudices from working in the Application Performance Management (APM) space for over a decade. 

APM, as it applies to Web applications, is an emerging field (hence the baby picture), so your comments and feedback will be deeply appreciated.
